Follow The Money - The First Segment

The next stop on the Fair Tour came to Ballard County at the
LaCenter Fair Grounds..This has been the best track that we have
seen on the circuit as of yet. What a GREAT job that Freddie Giles,
Bobby Lanier and Stan Wildharber have done this year and
throughout our nasty winter. Even though they could have let the
track go after being told that they could not race from the KHHA's
new rules. After over 30 years, they said Too bad Freddie..

Well, I have an answer for them my friends. I am in the works
currently to purchase 1% of about 25-30 broodmares, and breed
them NOT TO KY BREDS, but to NY, NJ and IL sires. I see its
working for most of the  weekly winners this year at the fairs!!!
Surely this is helping the Sire Stakes right. Well, NOPE, they are
not eligible for those, but who cares, RIGHT? The KHHA doesnt
    seem to.

The best race of the 2 day meet, was between Carolina Red, a
winner and point leader for 2 year old trotting colts, and Carolina
Bronson. Both are owned by Ray Mullen and Tom Caylor. Head and
head, nose to nose, DOWN the Stretch they COME...A blanket
finish with The Bronson getting his first win this season..Great
racing at LaCenter, thanks as always to director of Ballard Co Fair,
Florence Lanier (OH  yeah, she let me announce last year)..We
    need more people like FLO..

Hoosier Park hosted 2 recent winners from Bluegrass Downs. Why
its Brush the Sand and Falita battling it out once again. Falita got
the best of "The Sand" AGAIN but could not hold off All of them.
Brush the Sand is in for $8000 in a claimer on Friday. Personally, I
would give $1000, 2 Harnesses and a bag of Fritos for her...Maybe
next week.. ALSO, Harris and Sea went to Balmoral in Chicago and
Claimed Yoko Hall back...Tune in for the results.....Looking for a
driver on YOKO....Don't forget, Bucky is available.

Something happened tonight after a long 12 hr day of shift work. I
came to my barn a Carson Park to jog my colt Cartouche, and I
met up with Mel Smith (one of the nicest men in Harness Racing)
and I will not shoot the messanger here. But he told me that I was
not going to be calling the races at the Next Fair!! (Paducah)
Hmmmm...I wonder why that is?? All of a sudden, after 2
comments from the Puppet Master, I get canned. Oh well, though
I LOVE calling races, I was relieved that MEL took the time to come
and find me to inform me of the news. No calls from the KHHA or
the KY colt association..Big change from when they needed me last
year as a last minute fill-in. THIS IS WHAT TO EXPECT FROM BOTH
THESE ASSOCIATIONS!!!  So after looking at the comments left for
me on KyHarnessRacing.com, I have this to say...FIRE AWAY!!!

Below is the comment sent in about my last Trackside. This not my usual way of
getting information to you. But in this case, there were some very valid points
made that I had to address, and I thought I would share it with my readers. And
if you read the other comment you may see a contradiction.

name = Janet Napier
company = Ky Colt Association
job title = Clerk and Secretary

Janet (or BILL) Wrote this:
Note: My response is in bold

My name is Janet Napier and I am the secretary of the Ky. Colt
Association and the clerk at all the county fairs.
Actually 2 clerks....her and Charlett....the only track in the
Continental US that employees 2 clerks....everybody uses a tape
recorder....ask April. Or call the Meadowlands.

I do not know where you get your information, but apparently you do not
check to see if it is correct.
Did I or KyHarnessRacing.com accuse them of something? We
simply wanted to see a list of eligibles. The Kentucky Horse Racing
Authority sure doesn't have a problem providing anyone with a
    list. They mail them out.

First of all the nominating fees and the sustaining fees are mailed to the
Ky. Colt Association in Mayfield at which time Mr. Sholar sends the
nominations to me to run EACH and EVERY horse through a data base I
have with the USTA to verify their eligibility.
Why does he pay Janet to do that.....he can check EACH and
EVERY one in a matter of hours with pathway. Remember....They
said the fairs were hurting for money. At one time that's what was
SAID to be the reason for the rule change. Wonder what the
reason was now. I bet it's changed.

I really take offense when you are accusing me of playing favorites to
certain people or horses.
"I missed the accusation here "

I sent a list of the eligible horses to Bluegrass Downs to be posted and at
the end of the horse's line there was a B (for Ky. Breeder) or a S (for Ky.
Stallion).
How did you send it............should have been sent to one of 3
KHHA FAIR  reps R. Jerrell, K Mack or J. Haws.....a faxed copy
doesn't get it.....they should have put notice on the bottom of the
overnight.....just like every other important matter is......and
called all the fair horsemen together in the paddock or at one of
the Kyharnessracing.com seminars to pass out COPIES of the list

If you had just taken the time to call someone to clarify the code if you
did not know what it meant, you would have known what was going on.
    What code....My Zip Code?....horseman's code?....dress code? We
never received a copy of the list to start with...Nate lives less than
30 miles from the track.....make copies and pass them out.....if
you really CARED about the horseman getting the information you
would make sure SEVERAL copies got to the race sec, general
    office...on the website....KyHarnessRacing.com,  people are
reading it....including you.....or Heaven forbid the fair horsemen...
refer to the previous answer! And what is the $20 membership fee
    for?

Also I do not know what you are referring to when you mention the Board
of Directors and KHH!A. They do not have ANYTHING to do with the Ky.
Colt Association.
    Follow the money!<-------VERY IMPORTANT

The money for the fairs comes from the Agriculture Department
in Frankfort and from entry fees from each individual fair. The
Agriculture Dept sends their check to the Ky. Colt Association
in Mayfield and a portion of the money  to each individual fair.
Forgot to tell that over half the money paid out in purses each
year comes from a little old account the Kentucky Horse Racing
Authority supplies call the UNCASHED TICKET MONEY.......are they
going to send the money back to the Ky Dept of Ag when some of
the fairs cancel next year because of lack of entries.....because of
    the Napier/Sholar  rule?

I feel you, like  some other people, have confused the two organizations
and think they are one and the same, but they are two totally
Totally? such strong language.....next week edition will be to the
    contrair........its called Connecting The Dots.

different groups.  One is located in Mayfield and the other in Lexington.
They are playing by the 240 mile rule.......as long as the offices are
240 apart they are not connected....no matter how much Bill sticks
his nose in it.....if not connected then why is bill at EACH and
EVERY colt racing association meeting in October to discuss rule
    changes, race dates etc?.

I also carry a list of all the horses with me to each fair in case a
question should come up concerning eligibility.
Is the assistant clerk/charter required to carry one also?

I will be more than happy to show it to you if you announce.
Are you and Bill going to get me fired for questioning (your version
of the truth?) OH WAIT, YOU DID......at the Paducah fair.

One last thought..............how come we NEVER hear from the fair
puppets Jerrell, Mack, and Haws?.......such controversy all around
and all we hear from is Janet the secretary/check writer/assistant
charter/clerk/ wife of KHHA ex sec Bill Napier.....please dont tell
me that the 1 and 1A PUPPET MASTERS are hiding behind Janet
    the secretary/check writer/assistant charter/clerk/wife of KHHA
    Executive Secretary Bill Napier?....

The MEADOWLANDS uses a tape recorder............they have an
electronic timer at The Red Mile....is it necessary to pay someone
to hand time also????? Seems like such a waste of money for a fair
circuit that is reported as hurting for funds.......

Nepotism - favoritism (as in appointment to a job) based on
    kinship
