TRACKSIDE  "Where the truth makes the story"

The first 3 fairs of 2007....History!

The 2 day Mayfield Fair was packed with 72 young entrants
vying for a chance to make a name for themselves.. What a
year to have a 2 yr old Trotting Colt!! 4 horses in 1 division
for $5000. Ray "Bud" Mullen and
Thom "give me a thooousand to win" Caylor Carolina Red
was victorious in his first win in 2:14. Carolina Red was
bred by Max Willis (of the famed Carolina horses) in South
Carolina. He was privately purchased by Mullen and Caylor
this spring. These are the same guys who showcased the
outstanding filly BR Pilgrim.. Don Conrad had a huge 2 day
win percentage, with a total of 4 wins including Rowdy
Rowdy, Forever Showin Off, Get ready to Rumba, and Zoom
past you. Ronnie Guhy has another impressive colt this
year in Chevie Classic Rod, already a 1:57 winner at the
Red Mile.. "The Rod" went gate to wire in 2:03.3. And
Finally, M.T. Bowles had 2 wins with Wildcat Series Final
winners Super Sims and Jon's Girl. Both were impressive
winners, especially Jon's Girl, who destroyed last year's
supe!r filly Corinth by over 13 lengths. 6 out of the other 7
trotters made breaks..The fastest winners were stable
mates Real Model and Real excited in 2:01..

The 1 day Sturgis Fair was in low numbers. The barns
however, were in great shape. They made it more
convenient to ship in and race with no tying of our horses
to Cattle Gates (like in years past). And thanks to Sid
Girvin,  Sturgis really has catered to the horsemen over the
years and these new changes to the Facility shows how
they want to keep the fair in Union County.

Well, Chevie Classic Rod has gone yet another HUGE mile,
with a half mile pole brush to the front and not looking back
after that. A perfect 3 for 3 and under the tudolage of my
friend Ronnie Guhy. The "Rod" is a versatile colt and has
put back all challengers as of yet. I know many trainers
that wished they had a "ROD like Ronnie Guhy's"

The most impressive mile was by Reba's Big Boy and driver
Terry Cullipher in the 3 yr old pacing colt division for $5000.
9 colts went postward, going  on the gait.. A calvery charge
to the front left the Big Boy and Cullipher swinging 3 wide
at the half and 3 wide down the backside and up by 5 in
the! lane..So why didn't Cullipher drive this colt last week
instead of Bobby Brower?? Live and Learn Mr. Counts,
Terry owns the fairs around these parts..

The next fair is at LaCenter Fairgrounds in Ballard County.
The track is in Super condition thanks to Freddy Giles.

I would like to see a list of how some of these horses made
it into the KY Fair Program?? Seems to be a Lot of
Pennsylvania Sired Horses in there. Did these owners OWN
the broodmare at the time of conception, OR ARE THE
BOARD MEMBERS slipping threw some loopholes..HMMMM....
I see some money being redistributed in the near future,
my fellow KHHA members.. I have been working hard with
the USTA and my researchers to get to the bottom of this..
It will be resolved, I promise...

I will be filling in announcing for Mel "the Voice" Smith at
my favorite fair Carson Park on June 25, and 26. Yes, the
same fair where my wife was State Fair Queen, and
where my Filly set the filly track record Chevie
Revolution..Great food, live music and the very best in
    Harness Racing Action...
