TRACKSIDE  "Where the truth makes the story"
with Mike Kravchak
5/28/07
A very colorful weekend

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, you could walk by
Leading trainer/driver Gary Neafus' barn and you will
see a white SUV with tinted windows and a state sign
on the side, sitting there in the baking sun, watching
and waiting. Who is behind the driver's seat?
(holding his newspaper with two holes and
whispering to himself, "I can see you") Why it's
Dontas "THE INFORMANT" Kolioutas. Don works
for the integrity of Kentucky Racing. You may
remember Don's BIG BUST at Bluegrass Downs
seizing syringes and needles while apprehending the
culprit, about 3 years ago. So, why stay and camp
out in front of Gary's Barn? Was it his 9 stable wins
over the weekend? I stable directly across from Gary.
We are out in the open. I guess he can't help it that
he has a stable of 20 that are much better than most
    years. Classification, Classification, Classification
is Gary's best PRE-RACE. You see, he DOESN'T put
his $2000 claimers in for $5000 claimer so that they
don't get claimed. Ok.......maybe, it is the fact that
Gary was one of the smarter horsemen that went to
the Purina seminar, and he has since switched to
feeding Strategy to his whole stable. Or.... maybe, it
is because he jogs everyday and doesn't hang out in
the race office all day!!! You won't find anything here
MR. DONOTAS. MARK MY WORDS!!! So because we
are friends Don, I will let you in on a secret.
FORGET ABOUT GARY, and follow the WHITE
    FORD EXPEDITION....Catch my drift?? GOOD!!!
    Do your job.

Falita was back in action this week, and back to the
winner's circle AGAIN. The battle between Falita and
Brush the Sand lasted as long as a Paula Abdul
record. How did it go, "I take 2 steps forward , then
take 2 steps back?" Well, Brush the Sand took 1
step forward and 20 steps back, in the blink of an
eye. So fast she kept her bridle on. Definition: to
    stop badly....quit...ALL DONE.

Ok, now that Falita has beat up on everyone....boys
and girls.......and I love it. I got the chance to meet
Janie Cantrell at the Banquet, while winning last
year's Horse of the Year with her Falita. She not only
is a very nice lady, she is great for the harness world.
Great Job Janie, and you are on your way again for
    back to back Awards...

Tyler "I am the Greatest" Shehan had a 3 bagger,
with 1 win from Donna Eferstein's FEYS BLITZEN
GREY, a nw 1 grey beauty..

Pat  " I Destroy" Melloy also had a good weekend,
with many on the board finishes capping off a BIG
win with SF Camion. Pat also trains and owns the
    winner.

The annual KHHA banquet was a hoot right? At
least they had DRINK tickets. 3 Long Island Ice Teas
later, and we had a GREAT evening. The best part of
the night was the award for longtime horsewomen
Lucy Shirley. I may crack on the old horse
Underexposed a bit, but I have nothing but respect
for Mrs. Lucy, as I can say, so does ALL of the other
horsemen that come in contact with her.
    Congratulations Lucy and Neil!!

But what the HECK was up with
Joe "I wear my sunglasses at night" Costa. Now,
I am all for Steve Beshear for Governor, but 50
minutes, IN DARK SHADES mind you, about how
we need to support him. HOW sincere could that
    have been.........in shades.

You could also see the split in the room. KHHA on
one side and horsemen on the other. Calling names
left and right to stand up and WAVE.
Gimme a break, guys. Do your job, you track
reps, then you can STAND UP and
    WAVE....................NUFF SAID.

The Woodford county Fair started off with RICO
Robinson winning the open Trot with Bringham
Dream to a new lifetime mark in 1:58.2..Super Sims
continued from his Wldcat series Win to a 1:59 win.
Stable mate Jon's Girl made an uncharacteristic break
under Randy Jerrell. TUFSUN BEACH was a runaway
for  Mark "THE GOLDEN BOY" Evers in 1:54.1,
does this guy Iron and Crease his colors, what a
freak!!! ANd finally Prodigals Best won the Open pace
in1:54.4, after the scratch of favorite CARTOUCHE.
    Mike Neafus drove the winner.

Now for my hot/not/get out of town picks:

HOT again: FALITA, FUZY FINANCE, LEA LEGEND

NOT: Khaki Cam, Half gold rose (boy you

As we go into our last week, we look forward to the
battle for driver and trainer of the year, and as to
what track Josh Sutton will be allowed to WHIP at..
    ooops!!! I mean Race at!!!
