If I told you it was common to take entries late for the fairs...would you believe me? What if I told you that has happened several times according to KHHA Executive Secretary Bill Napier? Would it bother you? Well, I have to tell you that is the way it is...yes it did happen. And more times than you may think.
Before the 2006 KHHA banquet, if you looked at your watch and it was after 10am, you could still give the KHHA a call and your entries might have been taken, depending on who you are. Bill would first have to give Nate Sholar a call and get his approval. Now, keep in mind that the entry box closes at 10am, period, for the Kentucky fairs. Just ask Dr. Overstreet.
As I said, before the 2006 banquet, that was the routine. You may ask, what changed at the banquet. It wasn't the banquet that changed things. According to Bill Napier, it was at the KHHA Board Meeting that took place right before the 2006 banquet. At that meeting I had the opportunity to speak before the board. I went there with a group to speak about some money that was out there, that needed to be looked into, and about the KHHA being so secretive with information. Also, at that meeting I brought to everyone's attention that Bill had taken some entries for the fairs at 10:15am. When I gave Bill a call recently regarding this issue, I had the understanding that this had only happened once. (That was when Dr. Overstreet had sold two horses and the knew trainer called in after 10am to enter.) But, after talking to Bill I found that taking entries after 10am was a common practice. Here is what Bill said and I quote, "Since that meeting (2006 banquet) I haven't taken late entries. I told Nate (Sholar), if he wanted to accept entries late, he would have to get someone other than the KHHA to do it."
There are some that believe exposing these actions are UNWARRANTED. I say to you...Do you support these actions? To me, how our leaders operate MEANS EVERYTHING to our future.
