For those of you who have bet horses and after the
race feel like your horse was not driven in an all out
effort to win, it might have been because a trainer or
owner didn't want their horse to move out of the
class he is racing in.
If this has not ever happened to you, then you
haven't been betting horses very long, or just don't
look for an excuse as to why your horse was not
driven to win.
As a gambler, I have been handicapping horses for
30 years. And I have talked to many trainers who
have told me, "I need my horse to stay in this same
class until he has a little more experience to move up
and compete at the next level."
Now, some people may consider this cheating or
worse, but this is part of the everyday business.
So as handicappers, the betting public needs to
understand that some trainers and owners have
tendencies as do this with their horses. Just as when
a horse has been off from racing several months,
most of the time that horse will need a race or two,
which are called tighteners, for the horse to perform
at his best.
I say to you, as a handicapper from the betting
public, this is just another valuable tool we have to
use as bettors. Whether you agree with it or not,
this is something you must consider, to give yourself
the best chance to cash a ticket in a lot of races.
