Things To Do

The western end of Kentucky is a recreational
playground. Two large lakes, Kentucky and Barkley,
are home to fishermen and water skiers. This rural
area is historically known for catfish, hunting,
camping, lodges and moonshine. Historic homes and
Antique shops are in abundance. Incredible place for
photographers. Bring lots of film and a telephoto lens
    for capturing the wildlife.

Whether you like to swim with the fish or catch them,
Western Kentucky’s Lakes & Rivers Region offers
ideal opportunities for outdoor recreation. Fishing,
hunting, boating, hiking and wildlife viewing are just a
few of our many outdoor opportunities.

Naturally, there are unlimited opportunities for fun on
the water, but on land you can enjoy the beautiful
parks and privately-owned resorts, quaint bed and
breakfasts and hotels/motels around the region.
Enjoy trips to history museums and art galleries,
golf, tennis, horseback riding and more.

Be warned, however, the relaxing environment might
be contagious. You could find yourself waving at
strangers, feeling safe in a crowd and sharing fish
stories with the locals. You might forget about the
stresses of everyday life and focus on the simple
things, like teaching a child to bait a hook, learning to
sail, rediscovering your passion for American history
    or finding that perfect antique.

Get your bags packed. Then sit back, relax, prop up
your feet and stay for a while. Your friends in
Western Kentucky’s Lakes & Rivers Region welcome
you with
Southern hospitality.

Bluegrass Downs kicks off the 2009 harness season
4/13/09 KyHarnessRacing.com

Kentucky's 2009 racing season got underway on Thursday
afternoon at Bluegrass Downs. Billy Perkins has returned as
Race Secretary, after his absence in Kentucky during the
2008 season. Also, Rich Williams is once again providing the
horsemen with his expertise as the track's Presiding Judge.

The stars this weekend were, driver Mickey Pryor and
trainer Roshun Trigg. Mickey Pryor, of Paducah, turned in a
five bagger for the weekend. Trigg, a native of Mississippi,
sent out five winners from his stable. Trigg said, "I have my
horses tight. And I've bought a little different class of
horses for this year that should fit here."

Pat Melloy had three winners from his barn over the three
day weekend. Gary Neafus brought home two winners.
Trainer Buddy Simpson shipped in three winners for driver
    Clay Simpson.

It was reported that  there was only one violation written
this weekend,  for the new whipping rule that is now in
    effect.
The Mississippi Gang take the Downs by storm
4/20/09 KyHarnessRacing.com

After the first two weeks of racing, in only six days, the
Mississippi connections have made their presence felt - to
say the least. The guys from down south are winning 75%
of the races programmed at Bluegrass Downs.

Trainer Roshun Trigg had another outstanding weekend.
Driver Kelsey Perymond rallied up several wins. Larry Ward
visited the winners twice this weekend. Curtis Rice, Curtis
Bradford, Henry Daniels, Ronnie Gillespie, Randy Crisler, and
Lawrence Cooper, all of Mississippi, made it to victory lane.
Tony Kimbrough, who played football for the Denver
    Broncos, had multiple wins.

Also, the father son team of Illinois, Buddy and Clay
Simpson, had a couple of wins on Saturday afternoon.

Racing resumes on Thursday with a post-time of 5pm.
