Deal or No Deal

Early this morning, I answered a phone call, just
before 5am. It was an extremely reliable source of
mine. He sounded so excited as he said, "I have
some important news your going to want to hear!" I
knew it had to be some very good information for
him to call me before 5am.
I didn't have to ask anything, he just started talking.
"I guess a meeting took place yesterday morning at
The Red Mile. Stewart and Napier (of the KHHA) and
The Red Mile's Joe Costa. The meeting was about the
annual handle of $23 million in Advance Deposit
Wagers."
Our source continued, "There was lot of discussion
on what percentage the horsemen would receive and
how to apply it to the purse account. It hasn't been
etched in stone yet, but at the end of the
negotiations, it was decided that the horsemen will
receive 5% of the $23 million for the purse account.
And there's talk about adding 30 more days of racing.
That's $1.15 million. I was told that 40% ($460,000)
of that amount is to go into the bonus program, with
the remaining 60% ($690,000) to be added to the
OVERNIGHT purse account. That puts the purse
account over $1 million, plus the bonus program."
My first thoughts were, "WOW!" The source said,
"Yeah, the horsemen finally decided to..............
BEEEEP!!.....BEEEEP!!....BEEEEP!!.....BEEEEP!!
Suddenly, I was awaken by a blaring alarm clock and I
quickly realized that it was all just a DREAM. I felt
disappointed as I looked at the clock. In bright red
numbers it read 5am. But you know how one of
those almost real dreams are ---- they're great while
they last.
